In Translation | Selected Stories from Kage
One of the most influential manga in the medium's history now in English
Here is a collection of my posts translating (and talking about) the stories from the extremely influential manga release, Kage, which saw a group of artists who would immediately afterwards completely alter the course of the medium with the invention of gekiga (a movement, to radically simplify things, built around distancing manga from its image of being frivolous entertainment for kids) solidify their ideas in a collection of crime stories. This is proto-gekiga, an anthology of shorts that that boldly shifted the direction of the entire medium. It's hardly an exaggeration to say that basically no manga you enjoy today would be the same if it weren't for Kage!
Specifically here we have volume one of the collected stories that was later compiled and released in Japan – it's not everything that ever appeared during Kage's run, but you get a solid rundown of the major players and what they were doing within these legendary pages.
